Hunter Staffer Recognized With ‘Keeper of the City’ Award

Sean Davis

Some people get their work done quietly. Others approach it with a sense of duty. Sean Davis, manager of Hunter’s Receiving and Distribution Room, does it all with a smile and a spirit that lifts everyone around him.

Every day, Davis takes on countless responsibilities to ensure that distribution runs smoothly — and for that he will receive a 2025 Keepers of the City Award.

The annual award, presented in partnership with the District Council 37 union and Straus Media, celebrates individuals across New York City who keep essential operations running, often behind the scenes and always with exceptional dedication.

“Everyone who works with Sean knows the warmth, professionalism, and pride he brings to every task,” said Chief of Staff and Director of Operations Maria Camaj. “He may think his dedication, effort, and ability to keep everything moving go unnoticed, but we see it all.”

In September, Hunter honored Davis with its Spirit of the College Award during a ceremony in which 10 staffers were recognized with the Presidential Award for Staff Excellence.

Davis was born in 1970 at Harlem Hospital to a single mother and grandmother. He grew up in Washington Heights and attended St. Rose of Lima School from 1976 –1984, Fordham Prep for a year, and graduated from Immaculata High School in 1989.

After working for the New York City Housing Authority from 1991–2002, Davis was hired as a part-time clerk in the Hunter mailroom in 2006 and became a full-time employee in 2008. He deals with multiple packages daily, managing relations with staff and faculty members, and providing information and directions.

“I appreciate the recognition of my efforts in service,” he said.

The awards ceremony takes place on December 8 at D.C. 37 Headquarters in Manhattan, with NY1 anchor Errol Lewis as host. Straus Media will recognize Davis in a December 4 special section in its Our Town, West Side Spirit, Chelsea News, and Our Town Downtown newspapers.
