Jeff Owens, Chief College Lab Technician, recently completed the National League for Nursing (NLN) Leadership Development Program for Simulation Educators, an experience he describes as both “a leadership springboard” and “a pathway to elevate learning.”
Through the program, Owens deepened his understanding of how simulation helps nursing students safely transform knowledge into clinical judgment. “In a controlled practice field, students can manage high-stakes scenarios and systems issues without putting patients at risk—then debrief to convert action into insight,” he explained.
Owens returns to Hunter with a renewed focus on reflective leadership, communication, and collaboration—alongside new design innovations to strengthen student learning and faculty engagement. Looking ahead, he envisions the simulation program continuing to expand across three key areas: access, authenticity, and analytics. The program remains committed to advancing excellence in nursing education and preparing graduates to deliver the safe, equitable, and high-quality care patients deserve.
