Lori Janowski, Hunter College’s beloved Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, died on March 20. She was 53.
As an admissions professional at Hunter for two decades, Janowski guided countless students in developing the necessary skills to make well-informed decisions on their educational, career, and life aspirations.
A staunch advocate for students, she tirelessly promoted inclusivity and helped shape policies at Hunter, influencing the diverse makeup of our student body. Her influence extended state- and nationwide in the admissions community, through organizations such as NYSACAC and NACAC.
Janowski was an avid dog lover, and her furry companion often made endearing appearances at staff meetings.
“Anyone who knew Lori, knew she had a huge heart and willingness to help anyone around her,” said Hunter Director of Advising Nikole Feliciano.
Janowski lived with and supported a nephew, Hunter student Ryan Janowski, for whom her friends set up a Go Fund Me page to help with expenses.
Dean Janowski also served on the Undergraduate Academic Requirements Committee and was a voting member of the Hunter College Faculty Senate as a Student Affairs representative.
She earned a BA in Psychology from the University of Rhode Island and an MS in College Student Development and Counseling from Northeastern University.
She is survived by Ryan; a grandfather, Joe Janowski, and many family and friends in Connecticut and New York.
