Nursing Professor Donates Books to UNIMED

November 8, 2021
Share
Elsie Jolade

After coordinating a book drive on behalf of UNIMED, Dr. Jolade made the donation alongside her husband during a courtesy visit to the university's Vice Chancellor in January 2021. The Jolades collected books from colleagues in nursing and other health and medical sciences.

Founded in 2015 in response to alarming rates of maternal and child mortality and other health indicators in the state of Ondo, as well as a shortage of medical professionals in greater Nigeria, UNIMED began enrolling students in 2016-17 and has been developing programs in the health sciences, dentistry, medicine, nursing science and midwifery.

Dr. Jolade previously organized a book donation for UNIMED in 2017, and has collaborated with the Ondo Unity Forum in the Americas (OUFA) to provide free American Heart Association-based training in Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR for emergency cardiovascular care to dozens of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare workers at the university.

Dr. Jolade began her nursing education at the Ondo State School of Nursing in Akure, Nigeria, now an integral part of the School of Nursing Science at UNIMED. She plans to continue working with UNIMED to advance its mission in preparing future generations of healthcare professionals to address the health needs in the state.
