Two longtime faculty members — one an alumna — are assuming new leadership positions at Hunter College’s Lois V. and Samuel J. Silberman School of Social Work.
Doctoral Lecturer Robyn Brown-Manning (MSW ’76, CUNY PhD ’13) assumed the role of senior associate dean of academics and faculty affairs and Associate Professor Samuel Aymer became the director of the Master of Social Work Program, Dean Mary Cavanaugh announced.
“Their dedication and commitment have had a great impact on our students, faculty, and staff, and I am confident that their leadership will further our excellence in social-work education,” Cavanaugh said.
The appointments illustrate Hunter’s commitment to fulfilling its role as an anchor institution in New York City and to East Harlem, the site of the Silberman campus.
Brown-Manning brings extensive experience in social-work education and practice and a profound understanding of community-centered partnerships. Her expertise is in child welfare, family and group social work, African American families and networks of care, and multicultural social work.
Aymer served as the chair of clinical practice methods for more than a decade. He is an expert on intimate-partner abuse, trauma and community violence, and clinical practice with diverse populations and males of all ages. He earned his PhD in 2005 from New York University’s School of Social Work.
