Alvin Ailey

Founded in 1958, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is the largest modern dance company in the United States. The company was founded by Alvin Ailey, an American dancer, director, choreographer, and activist who centered his artistry around the Black American experience. Ailey is now not only a dance company but a foundation, a dance school, and a dance camp. The company continues to perform internationally and celebrate the historical legacy of Alvin Ailey.
