The Metropolitan Opera is the largest classical music organization in North America, presenting 18 different operas annually. The Met's performing company consists of a large symphony orchestra, a chorus, children's choir, and many supporting and leading solo singers. The company also employs numerous freelance dancers, actors, musicians and other performers throughout the season. The Met regularly presents operas from the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as new works adapted from popular books and stories.

The Met Opera offers $35 student tickets to select performances and other discounts through its Met Students program. Students in the program are invited to pre-performance pirates with free food and drink.
