Jacques Marchais not only established the first museum of Tibetan art in America, she also designed it to resemble a mountain monastery, making it the first Himalayan architecture in the US as well. The museum is located on a quiet hill on Staten Island overlooking the bay, offering visitors a peaceful break from the bustling city. The collection includes sculpture, ritual objects, musical instruments, thangkas or scroll paintings and furniture. While the museum focuses on Tibetan art, it also includes objects from Nepal, northern China, Mongolia, and Southeast Asia.
