New York Philharmonic

The New York Philharmonic is one of the oldest music institutions in the United States and is often cited as one of the “big five” symphony orchestras in the country. At just four years old the Philharmonic performed the first ever English language version of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, and would go on to premiere such seminal works as Gershwin's An American in Paris, Copland's Appalachian Spring Suite, and Stravinsky's Symphony in Three Movements. It was one of the first orchestras to embrace recorded music, radio, television, and digital media in an effort to make its concerts more widely accessible to the public.
