Whitney Museum of American Art

Featuring well-renowned artists such as Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, the Whitney Museum is dedicated to American art and artists. The collection holds a heavy emphasis on 20th and 21st century art, and prioritizes living artists. The museum is located in the meatpacking district right next to the High Line and Little Island. The Whitney’s large temporary exhibits include a 2025 show of paintings by Amy Sherald, including her Smithsonian-commissioned portrait of former First Lady Michelle Obama.
