Salutations! I am Alex, a first-generation college graduate, son of Ecuadorian immigrants, gay Latino male, who grew up in Corona, Queens, NY. My educational and professional journey includes the NY Catholic school system (St. Leo’s & St. John’s Prep.), a flagship NY university (SUNY Albany), and with lots of hard work and some luck I spent 15+ years working in marketing and communications roles, including living in London and Amsterdam. Not too shabby for a kid from Queens! In 2008, I decided to switch careers to focus on something more personal and dear to my heart --- increasing enrollment and graduation rates of underrepresented student populations in college. A college degree positively changed my life and I wanted to help others have the same opportunity. Changing careers was not easy; it involved lots of research, asking for advice and help from family and friends, and going back to school. In 2010, I graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University and I joined Hunter shortly thereafter. Since then, I have been advising students at the college and doing my best to challenge and support their unique academic journeys. #StudyWhatYouLove #DreamBig #SiSePuede #ImRootingForYou
