Dr. Lopes is a physical therapist and academic whose work centers on teaching, mentorship, and scholarly contributions in physical therapy. His career is distinguished by extensive international collaborations and a global perspective informed by his academic training and professional experience in Brazil.
Dr. Lopes has provided clinical care as a physical therapist for the Brazilian national team at four Olympic Games (2002, 2006, 2008, and 2012) and has treated elite track and field athletes across numerous international competitions. He has also served as a researcher for the official Olympic Injury and Illness Surveillance Studies for both Summer and Winter Olympic Games since 2016.
His current research agenda focuses on supporting physical therapy practice in low- and middle-income countries through telerehabilitation, particularly for individuals with non-communicable conditions, while advancing global education, knowledge exchange, and international partnerships in physical therapy. He is currently involved in education and research initiatives in Brazil and Kenya.
