Margarit Ordukhanyan is a scholar an award-winning translator of poetry and prose from her native Armenian and Russian into English. Most recently, she was the Fall 2022 Translator-in-Residence at the University of Iowa’s Translation Workshop, a 2023 National Endowment of the Arts Translation Fellow, and a recipient of the 2023 Israelyan Translation Prize from the International Armenian Literary Association.
At Hunter College, Ordukhanyan has designed, developed and taught a series of courses on theoretical and practical aspects of translation, with a particular emphasis on pre-professional translation training. She has established and directed a range of translation internships for graduates of the Russian major in translation. She also teaches courses on 18th and 19th century Russian literature and culture, narratives of adultery in the 19th century, Vladimir Nabokov and bilingual writing, and many others. She holds a PhD from Boston College.
