How Do I Qualify for a Letter Packet
Learn How to Qualify for a Letter Packet
If for any reason a Pre-Health student wants to apply to health professions graduate schools without the Hunter College endorsement via a Committee Letter, the student may choose to have their recommendation letters uploaded to a dossier service or a common application via a Letter Packet if they conform to Letter Packet qualifications.
important: If you want application review assistance from Pre-Health Advising Office, you MUST attend the application planning seminars.
If a student does NOT have an open Pre-Health File and is NOT eligible to receive a Committee Letter because they do not meet the requirements set forth in this website or because the Pre-Health Office does not provide Committee Letters for their intended profession, the student may still be able to receive a Letter Packet if they conform to all of the Letter Packet qualifications detailed below:
- Attend a Letter Packet Workshop and timely submit the Letter Packet Application to the Pre-Health Advising Office. Letter packet seminars are offered only in November and February.
- Have a science and overall GPA of 3.0 (as of 2022-2023 application cycle)
- Have an MCAT score of 502 or above, a DAT score of 19 or above, or an OAT score of 310 or above
- Have all requisite letters of recommendation uploaded to the Pre-Health database via the link on the Welcome Page of this website by the Letter Packet Application deadline in the year in which you are applying.
Please submit the following letters:- 2 letters from science professors (physics, chemistry or biology)
- 1 letter from practicing clinician in the area of healthcare to which you are applying
- 1 letter from clinical supervisor
- 1 letter from research supervisor (not required for pre-dental or pre-optometry track)
- 1 letter from community service supervisor.
important: All letters of recommendation must be on letterhead and contain the signature of the letter writer.
- Provide a Letter of Good Standing from each academic institution attended since high school by the deadline for the Letter Packet Application.
A student seeking a Letter Packet can access the Pre-Health Advising Office website Welcome Page and under QUICK LINKS use the Recommendation/Evaluation Request link to accumulate references under their name.
PLEASE NOTE: You are responsible for making certain that all letters of recommendation have been received by the Pre-Health Office. Please check with our office to ensure that the letters have been received, are on letterhead, and are signed.
Be aware that letter packet applications do not roll over from cycle to cycle. Accordingly, if you do not submit your application to health professions graduate schools during the cycle for which you applied during the cycle in which you applied for a letter packet, you will need to submit a new letter packet application the following cycle.
