The Medical School Interview
Congratulations! The hard part of the medical school admission process is over. Now, you just have to take advantage of the opportunity and secure your seat in medical school. We believe that preparation is Everything. Our workshop is geared to prepare you for your mock interview with a Pre-Health Advisor and the Big Day at the medical school interview. Our workshop will address the kinds of interviews, what medical schools want, how to prepare for the myriad of questions that may be asked of you, what to wear, and interview preparation strategies.
Pre-Health Group Advising
Hunter Pre-health advisers will hold a group advising sessions for students with pre-health questions. This session will be held in a classroom setting and will allow students to collectively ask questions of the pre-health advising team and to learn from their pre-health peers. All are welcome, especially first-year students!
NYC Health & Hospitals Victim Services Volunteer Program Information Session
Victim Services volunteers provide crisis intervention, advocacy, and support during an emergency room visit for survivors of sexual assault. This includes working with medical staff on expediting the process, remaining present with the survivor throughout the entire ER visit which can take any where from 2 hours to 12 (average is 5), providing advocacy with the police and accompanying the survivor through the first interview with detectives at the hospital, and being physically present during the forensic rape examination if the survivor chooses to have the advocate there.

Pre-Health Discussion Forum: 3 Biological Parents, 1 Child-Mitochondrial Replacement Therapy
Mitochondrial replacement therapy (MRT), is an in-vitro fertilization technique that uses mitochondrial DNA from a healthy donor in an attempt to prevent the transmission of mitochondrial disease from one generation to the next. Genetically, this produces a fetus with three biological parents. Consequentially, this incites much debate regarding the ethics of the procedure. Join us for a discussion on the ethics, efficacy, and biology of the procedure. How to succeed as a Pre-Health student at Hunter College
Join us for a panel discussion with current undergraduates and Post Bacc students who will share tips and techniques on how to succeed as a Pre-Health student. Pre-Health students must achieve a grade of B or better in all science courses, engage in research and gain clinical exposure in order to be considered competitive applicants. Come and hear how other Pre-Health students balance these commitments while juggling their academic and extracurricular activities. This panel discussion is strongly recommended for new freshmen, transfer and Post Baccs students.
Interviewing 101 for Pre-Health Students
Learn the skills you will need to perform well in interviews for clinical volunteering experiences, research assistant positions, medical assistant positions and others. We will cover how to make the best of your interview from communication skills---both verbal and nonverbal---to how to dress for your interview---to how to write a thank you note/email after the interview [sample will be provided] We will also be reviewing frequently asked interview questions. You will be practicing how to answer these questions during the workshop. Proper interview etiquette will also be covered. This workshop is highly recommended for freshman and sophomores.
Community Service Volunteering for Pre-Health Students
Zoe Smolen, the Let's Get Ready College Senior Access Program Manager will discuss the importance of community service and will be recruiting volunteers for the program. Let's Get Ready is an educational non-profit offering SAT preparation and application counseling to high school students from underrepresented backgrounds. Volunteers will be trained to serve as tutors and mentors. This is a required workshop for Pre-Health students.
NYC HEALTH + HOSPITALS Research Internship Information Session
NYC H + H Research Administration is looking for responsible and committed undergraduate and graduate research interns to assist with research studies examining our interventions and programs. Research interns will gain experience in the ethical conduct of research with human subjects, participant recruitment, study design, and data collection and entry, and regulatory compliance. Interns will gain familiarity with the research process, research administration, regulatory requirements, current understanding of medical and psychological disorders, the diagnostic process, and related treatments depending upon placement. This position is ideal for students who are considering a graduate degree in the medical profession. Competitive Applicants Will: + Be able to commit to at least a 9-month internship position if selected + Be self-motivated, and reliable + Have at least a 3.0 GPA + Be an undergraduate student enrolled in a health sciences/pre-med, or psychology major + Graduate students in any related major may apply

Learn to study “creatively” for your STEM classes from a panel of high performing Hunter STEM students who will give you their strategies to earn top grades. Learn how to turn your memorized “facts” into the basis of your critical thinking strategies that lead to a better understanding of the material and how to fully form complete answers to exam questions. This is a required workshop for Pre-Health students.
Pre-Health Discussion Forum: Boosting the immune system to fight cancer
For years, the foundations of cancer treatment were surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. Over the last two decades, targeted therapies are drugs that target cancer cells by homing in on specific molecular changes seen primarily in those cells have also cemented themselves as standard treatments for many cancers. But over the past several years, immunotherapy—therapies that enlist and strengthen the power of a patient’s immune system to attack tumors—has emerged as what many in the cancer community. In 2017, two CAR T-cell therapies were approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), one for the treatment of children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and the other for adults with advanced lymphomas. Nevertheless, researchers caution that, in many respects, it’s still early days for CAR T cells, including questions about whether they will ever be effective against solid tumors.
