Spring 2020 Pre-Health New Transfer Student Orientation

The Pre-Health Transfer Student Orientation is designed to provide detailed information to students who are new to Hunter College about the Pre-Health program. Are you considering a career in a health field (Medicine, Dentistry, Optometry, Podiatry, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Physician Assistant, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy )? Did you recently transfer to Hunter College and need some guidance on how to best prepare for the health professions graduate school? Start on the right track by attending our mandatory Spring 2020 transfer student orientation. You will learn how to register as a Pre-Health student, about our services, the different health professions schools' timelines, and academic requirements. Join us to meet the Pre-Health advising staff and learn what you need to do NOW to start building a strong application to professional school. This information session is MANDATORY for new Pre-Health transfer students entering Hunter in Spring 2020.

IV Training for Pre-Health Students

Come and learn how to administer an IV. IV stands for intravenous that is giving medicines or fluids through a needle or tube, which directly goes into a vein. Proper and successful insertion of IV places its own importance as it can even cause discomfort to the patient. This is a hands-on workshop. Weill Cornell Medicine Healthcare Policy & Research Program Information Session

Are you ready to impact the future of healthcare? Join us for an information session with Brian Carroll, Director of Education for Weill Cornell Medicine Healthcare Policy & Research Program. The M.S. program can be completed in just one year. Many students enroll in our program as a gap year between medical school to develop and cultivate their research techniques as well as to build and strengthen their real-world skills and networks in the healthcare industry. Scholarships are available. There are three academic tracks in: 1. Health Policy and Economics trains students to become leading policy analysts and researchers working to identify the most effective ways to organize, manage, finance, and deliver high quality healthcare. 2. Health Informatics is the application of information science and information technology in the service of better health and better healthcare. We study, develop, and, improve innovative information technologies in healthcare. To apply these information technologies effectively, we also study human and organizational behaviors. 3. Biostatistics and Data Science provides top-class training in biostatistics, as well as the analytic techniques used in data science to prepare students for the data-driven challenges of today's world.

Community Service Volunteering for Pre-Health Students

Neha Surender, the Let's Get Ready College Access Managing Director will discuss the importance of community service and will be recruiting volunteers for the program. Let's Get Ready is an educational non-profit offering SAT preparation and application counseling to high school students from underrepresented backgrounds. Volunteers will be trained to serve as tutors and mentors.

Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health Environmental Health Research Program

PrIMER trainees commit to a two-year program beginning June before their junior year through December of their senior year. Trainees are paired with a Columbia University faculty member who serves as a research and academic mentor throughout the program.
