How to Apply to the Pre-Health Program:
the 3 Steps to Pre-Health Success
please note: The information and requirements below are specific to transfer and second degree students ONLY.
Join the Pre-Health Program by completing the 3 steps outlined below.
Completing Step 1 introduces you to the expectations of the Pre-Health Program and registers you on our email listserv so you can begin receiving emailed announcements about events, research and volunteer opportunities, guest talks, and much more.
Completing Step 2 allows you to schedule appointments with a Pre-Health Advisor in Navigate and registers you with the Pre-Health Office. Step 2 should be completed by the second semester of your first year at Hunter College.
Step 3 allows you to open your Pre-Health File so that the Pre-Health Office may receive documents on your behalf and determine your eligibility for receiving a Committee Letter. Steps 2 and 3 should be completed no later than your second semester at Hunter College so that you can benefit from regular advising appointments and possibly qualify for a Committee Letter or Letter Packet.

Step 1: To apply to the Pre-Health Program, you must fulfill the
requirements below:
- Join the Pre-Med email listserv using your Hunter email address
- Attend the Pre-Health Orientation for Transfer Students (offered every August and January)
please note: You may begin attending the required seminars outlined in Step 2 before completing Step 1 as long as you document the dates attended.

Step 2: Complete the requirements for opening your Pre-Health File:
IMPORTANT: Please treat the PPAP 1000 and PPAP 1002 series as an important part of your normal curriculum. Students must attend all seminars listed. If more than 2 seminars are missed in either seminar series, the student will be required to repeat all seminars in that series.

- Attend ALL required Pre-Health seminars as part of the PPAP 1000 series (Offered once each Fall and Spring semester, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 2:30-3:45 PM):

- Letters of Recommendation: Everything You Need to Know (required as of Fall 2021)
- Everything You Need to Know about Being a Pre-Health Student (EYNTKABAPHS)
- Submit your Pre-Health Contract (emailed to you after attending EYNTKABAPHS)
- Submit your Pre-Health Application using your assigned Pre-Health ID (emailed to you after attending EYNTKAPHS).
After completing the steps above, you may begin requesting course evaluations from Professors and/or Teaching Assistants. Letters of Recommendation may not be requested until Step 3 is complete. - Maintain a minimum 3.3 cumulative and BCP (Biology/Physics/Chemistry) science GPA at Hunter.
- Have a minimum of 9 science credits completed at Hunter College (if you have already completed 12+ science credits at your prior institution), or a minimum of 12 science credits (if you completed less than 12 science credits at your prior institution).
please note: It is the responsibility of the student to keep track of the names and dates of all events attended, as there is no centralized database that links event attendance to individual student records. Attendance credit will not be granted to students who are unable to provide a date and/or name of the event they attended. Students unable to provide this information will be required to repeat the event.

Steps 2-3 must be completed by the end of the second semester at Hunter College. Students who do not apply by this deadline will receive a Letter Packet. Seniors or graduated alumni who have yet to open their Pre-Health File will be ineligible to receive a Committee Letter.
Submission of Required Documentation
To prepare the documentation necessary to open your Pre-Health File, take the following steps:
- Please review How to Submit the Pre-Health Application Checklist (PHAC).
- Fill out and submit the Pre-Health Application Checklist (PHAC).
- Email Bobby to inform him that you have submitted the Checklist and are requesting that your Pre-Health Application is reviewed.
Booking the Pre-Health Application Review Meeting (PHARM)
note: To address an unprecedented number of student requests to open Pre-Health files, applications will be processed without meetings on an expedited basis. Once the backlog is reasonably caught up, bookings through youcanbook.me will be reactivated and Zoom Meetings reinstated.
