Welcome to the Hunter College
Department of Physical Therapy
School of Health Professions
Hunter College
City University of New York

Welcome From The Chair Of The Department Of Physical Therapy

On behalf of the faculty, staff and students in the Department of Physical Therapy, I hope you and your family are well.  The difficult times of the last several years and recent times have challenged us all, individually and collectively, in so many ways. It has also brought us together with great determination and passion for continuing to provide our students with the greatest physical therapy education despite all the challenges in front of us.  Our faculty, staff, and students have demonstrated the grit and the passion for teaching and learning that makes our Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program the exceptional Program it has been for so many years.

These times also challenge us to become better citizens of the world and better human beings.  We must recognize, once and for all, that the inequities existing in our society must end and that EVERY ONE of us has a responsibility to step forward and help make this happen.   The inequalities in access to health care education and access to health care are unacceptable.   We vow, as a program, to take steps together in the effort to end racial discrimination and the inequities that follow it.

Physical therapy is indeed a wonderful profession, offering us an opportunity to care for others from birth to old age, neurological rehabilitation to sports physical therapy, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, vestibular rehabilitation, burn rehabilitation, pelvic floor health and so much more.  At Hunter College’s DPT program, students are exposed to all aspects of the profession through a dedicated and enthusiastic faculty that represents the breadth of the profession.  While we are all experienced and passionate teachers, we are physical therapists first.  Our passion and continued direct involvement in clinical work feeds our work in the classroom.  A team of strong researchers, committed to furthering the profession’s body of knowledge, the faculty is also dedicated to introducing students to all aspects of the research process through a research project that spans the 3 year curriculum culminating in a publishable paper or presentation.   Our students graduate as strong generalist clinicians able to use effective clinical reasoning to develop an effective treatment plan for their patients, ready to Transform(ing) society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience” (Physical Therapy Vision).

Thank you for visiting our website and for your interest in our profession and our program.  We all look forward to meeting you at an information session and to getting to know you along the path of your pursuit of a career in physical therapy.

Stay safe & well,
