Transfer Course Evaluation Guide
Transfer credits are evaluated for new admitted freshman and transfer students about 5-7 days after they have committed to Hunter and submitted their deposit (if required).
For more information regarding the transfer credit evaluation process, view our transfer credit policy here.

(1) Institution is the name of the college that you are transferring to
(2) Source Institution is the name of previous institution attended
- The first column contains the semester and year of your articulation term at Hunter labeled Transfer Term.
(3) Incoming Course – containing the subject and number at your previous school followed by Units Taken and Grade Input for that course.
(4) A Hunter College equivalent course number has been granted, followed by the Unit and Grade received at your previous school.
(5) ELECT111LA (Liberal Arts) or ELECT 111NL (Non-Liberal Arts). This course may be used as elective credit toward the Hunter College degree. ELECT (M) – credits granted for Major Elective credit.
(6) These courses may be used towards satisfying the CUNY Common Core Requirement (RCLP, RCMQ, FCUS, RCER, FCER, FCIS, FCWG, FCSW). Refer to the Core Requirement in the Hunter College catalog for detailed information.
If you believe an elective course may fulfill a major, minor, or pre-requisite course requirement, you need to obtain a course equivalency from the appropriate academic department. In order to obtain a course equivalency, you must submit a syllabus or course description from your previous institution along with a copy of your Hunter transfer credit evaluation record to the appropriate academic department. The departmental advisor/chairperson will determine if the course has a Hunter College equivalent. If the course is approved, your departmental advisor/chairperson will need to forward the course equivalency form to trceval@hunter.cuny.edu. Confirmation of all changes will be sent to your Hunter email 5-7 business days after the form is received.
Below are the most common reason why some courses may not have transferred. Please be sure to review the transfer credit policy in full:
- Grade is too low
- Duplicate course
- Course is non-transferable and does not have any equivalent at Hunter College
- Maximum number of credits that are transferable has been reached
You can find all evaluated test credits under the “Test Credits” or “Other Credits” sections of your evaluation in CUNYfirst.
Hunter College may award credit for prior learning if there's documented evidence of college-level knowledge. Credit is not given for experience alone. To apply, submit the CPL Assessment Form and Portfolio for review here.
