My Story
For me, nursing is not just a career choice - it’s something deeply personal. My mother was a nurse, and from a young age I witnessed her compassion, dedication, and sense of responsibility toward her patients. One moment that stands out clearly in my memory was during a family flight to Las Vegas, when an announcement asked if there was a nurse onboard to assist someone experiencing low blood sugar. Without hesitation, my mother stepped in to help. Watching her care for a stranger with such calm and empathy made me realize that nursing was more than a profession - it was a calling.
After my mother passed away from a hemorrhagic stroke, that calling became even stronger. Losing her was incredibly painful, but it also gave me clarity and purpose. I want to honor her legacy by extending the same compassion and care she gave to others. Every step I take in my nursing education feels connected to her influence and the values she instilled in me.
Pursuing nursing allows me to combine technical skills with human connection. I see it as an opportunity to support people during their most vulnerable moments and to make a meaningful contribution to healthcare. Carrying my mother’s example with me gives me the motivation to continue, even when the journey feels challenging.
Overall, my mom’s legacy reflects dignity. Oftentimes patients feel stripped of their dignity when facing challenging illnesses. With my future career as a nurse, I want to be that ray of hope that restores the dignity of my future patients through being who I am. Cordially Zen.
