Summary
Explore experimental and site-responsive printmaking practices that intersect with photography, contemporary art, collaborative publishing, and critical research!
Printmaking in CDMX is a graduate-level studio course that takes place in both Mexico City and New York. With support from SOMA, a leading contemporary art and educational space, as well as local print studios in Mexico City, the course offers students a unique opportunity to engage directly with local artists, materials, and histories. Activities include hands-on workshops, museum visits, and collaborative studio sessions.
Inspired by the work of artists such as Mariana Castillo Deball and Hito Steyerl, the course investigates themes of fragmentation, impression, and circulation. Emphasis will be placed on adapting print-based processes to each student’s individual practice.
The course will culminate in a publication produced at Hunter’s Riso Lab, with the option to submit copies to the new Riso Collection at Hunter’s Zabar Art Library.
