Academic Support & Tutoring

Hunter offers a variety of tutoring, multimedia materials, technical support, reference libraries, learning workshops, and study groups to support student success.  Discover which of these resources may benefit your academic journey.

Academic Support

The Chanin Language Center is a specially designed space for Hunter students who wish to study foreign languages. The space is designed so that students are afforded ample opportunity to practice the foreign language being studied through films, audio and video programs, and interactive computer language-applications available to individual students and classes.

The Hunter College Reading/Writing Center is a comprehensive service for the entire Hunter community, offering tutorial assistance and academic support to all registered students, both undergraduate and graduate, as well as technical assistance and development to faculty and staff.

The Socrates Center is a multimedia learning center for biology students. It is a quiet place to study, connect with other students and utilize a number of computer, audiovisual and printed resources. Students may also use our computers to write papers, check e-mail and browse the Internet. In addition, BIOL 100/102 instructors hold their office hours in the Center. Tutoring in biology is also available. Non-biology students may use the Center as well.

The Physical Sciences Learning Center provides individual tutoring, on a walk-in basis, for students enrolled in physics, chemistry and astronomy courses. Workshops and group tutoring sessions are also offered for selected topics. State-of-the-art computers with Internet service and appropriate programs are readily available. An extensive library, containing physical science textbooks, problem solution manuals and videos are provided for the students. The Center encourages students to learn and work with their peers.

The Dolciani Mathematics Learning Center offers many support services in mathematics. At the Center, students have access to tutoring services for various math and stastistics courses, multimedia materials on most statistics courses, a reference library, and help with study skills in mathematics.

Additional Support

The Children’s Learning Center is a quality child care learning facility for the children of Hunter College students. We provide a rich, developmentally appropriate environment for children while their parents attend classes or perform other college-related work. We offer a Preschool Program for children ages 2.5 to age 6, and an After-School Program for children ages 6 – 12. Programs are offered during the academic calendar, as well as during both summer sessions.
