Professor Suzanne Farrin Performs in Satirical Mini-Opera 'Drumf and the Rhinegold'
Professor Suzanne Farrin, Chair of the Music Department, performed on the ondes Martenot in a fifteen-minute political satire, Drumf and the Rhinegold. The New York Times recently ran an article on how Donald Trump's candidacy for President has inspired a new crop of theatrical works. According to the article, "the piece, a parody of Wagner's Ring Cycle, tells the story of Drumf, a sinister overlord who has stolen a magic ring granting world domination, but who runs into resistance from the Rhinemaidens-- Ivana, Marla and Melania-- who reclaim the gold ring hidden in his hair, which itself is a singing character. The performance is a production of the Floating Tower theater company, and the opera’s composer, Matti Kovler, said Mr. Trump 'has such a dramatic persona that it is perfect for opera.'"
