Office of Diversity and Compliance

Hunter is committed to a policy of equal employment and equal access in its educational programs and activities. Diversity, inclusion, and an environment free from discrimination are central to our mission.

It is the policy of Hunter to recruit, employ, retain, promote, and provide benefits to employees (including paid and unpaid interns) and to admit and provide services for students without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, ethnicity, ancestry, religion, age, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth and related conditions), sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, marital status, partnership status, disability, genetic information, alienage, citizenship, military or veteran status, status as a victim of domestic violence/stalking/sex offenses, unemployment status, or any other legally prohibited basis in accordance with federal, state and city laws.

It is also the Hunter's policy to provide reasonable accommodations when appropriate to individuals with disabilities, individuals observing religious practices, employees who have pregnancy or childbirth-related medical conditions, or employees who are victims of domestic violence/stalking/sex offenses.

This Policy also prohibits retaliation for reporting or opposing discrimination, or cooperating with an investigation of a discrimination complaint.

Dean John T. Rose (john.rose@hunter.cuny.edu) is the College's Dean for Diversity and Compliance and Title IX Coordinator.

Laura Nelson (laura.nelson@hunter.cuny.edu) is the College’s Deputy Director of Diversity and Compliance and the Deputy Title IX Coordinator.

Alexandra Poulin (alexandra.poulin@hunter.cuny.edu) is the Administrative Coordinator for the Office of Diversity and Compliance and member of the Title IX team.

The Office of Diversity and Compliance supports and enhances Hunter College's commitment to diversity, providing expert advice and leadership to departments, faculty and staff in their efforts to recruit and retain a diverse workforce and ensure an environment free from discrimination and harassment.

CAMPUS SAFETY ADVISORY COMMITTEE (CSAC)

In accordance with State Education Law 129-A, section 6431, Hunter College has established the Campus Safety Advisory Committee. This Committee is chaired by the Dean of Diversity and Compliance (John Rose) and the Deputy Director of Diversity and Compliance (Laura Nelson). The committee meets at a minimum, on an annual basis to discuss safety protocol, issues, changes and recommendations. The Committee consists of at least, 10 members including representatives from various departments (including but not limited to Public Safety, Counseling & Wellness, Student Conduct, Provost, Student Affairs, Student Activities, Legal Affairs), faculty members, and students. The Committee reviews matters around physical safety, sexual misconduct, discrimination, applicable policies and available resources. The notes of these meetings, along with recommendations are submitted to the President of Hunter College.

Update: In 2023, a subcommittee was implemented, chaired by the Deputy Director of Diversity and Compliance, focused on hate crimes and bias incidents.
