Eligibility
All Hunter College juniors and seniors are eligible to apply, regardless of major. To qualify, you must meet the following criteria:
- be within 45 credits of graduation (a upper junior or lower senior) when you start the program
- be enrolled as a student for the full academic year of the program
- have an overall GPA of at least 3.0
Participants are selected based on their motivation, leadership potential, maturity level, academic performance, communication skills and demonstrated interest in public service.
Application Process
Submit the 2023 application form with 1 short essay on your interest in public service. The essay portion should not exceed 650 words. (Essay prompts are listed in the application and below: ALL 3 essay prompts should be answered within 650 words.)
Completed applications must include transcripts from ALL colleges you have attended.
A select group of applicants will be invited to interview with the director. Final selections will be made after the interview process.
Essay Prompts: (You must answer ALL 3 prompts in 1 essay)
- Why do you want to become a Public Service Scholar? What are your objectives in applying for this program? (Be specific about your interest in the environmental or general section.)
- What are your career interests or goals? How are they related to the objectives of the program?
- If you had the opportunity to work on an issue or problem in New York City, which one would you choose? Why? (Environmental section applicants, please specify an environmental issue that you are particularly interested in.)
When to Apply
Rolling applications are accepted throughout the year. Students who wish to apply in the fall must ensure that we have their transcript(s) by the end of the fall semester.
