Major Requirements

The requirements were updated as of Summer 2020. The requirements for the major changed in the summer of 2020. If you declared your major prior to that, you are responsible for fulfilling the old requirements.   • 30 credits total:
  • Introduction to Sociology (SOC 10100)
  • Sociological Theory (SOC 22400)
  • Introduction to Research Methods (SOC 24000)
  • Social Statistics (SOC 24100)
  • Sociological Capstone (SOC 470)
  • 6 credits of upper level sociology courses (SOC 300/400)
  • 9 credits in any level

Students also have the option of focusing their studies in one of our department’s Areas of Concentration, although they are not required to do so. These seven areas were selected on the basis of our faculty members’ research expertise and the depth of course offerings available.
