Hunter/CUNY Funding and Leave Opportunities

 

  • Graduate Center’s Mellon Fellowship Program

This Distinguished Fellowship Award Program is open to all tenured faculty throughout the university, and aims to support faculty research and foster interdisciplinary dialogue among faculty and students. The Distinguished Fellowship Awards comes with a full course release for one or two semesters, office space at the Graduate Center, and full access to the Graduate Center’s academic infrastructure, among other support, and they call for full participation in the intellectual and academic life of the Graduate Center.

Please read the program announcement here, which includes the October 31, 2012 deadline for applications for the 2013-2014 academic year (given the course release, the Provost requestst that you discuss this application with your chair as soon as possible).

 

  • Presidential Travel Award Program

The Presidential Travel Grant Award Program supports faculty participation in conferences and other research-related travel. For the program announcement, which includes guidelines, deadlines and the the required application cover sheet, click here.  Applications are due to Department Chairs by November 1, 2012.

 

  • CUNY Fellowship Leave

There are three areas--research; improvement of teaching; creative work in literature or the arts--in which the applicant may apply for workto be conducted during a sabbatical rather than during the academic year or summer. The application is due in your department by Decemeber 3rd, 2012. Please follow this link for the application and further information.

 

  • CUNY Scholar Incentive Award

The scholar incentive award is a leave for up to one year for original research or creative work. Elligible candidates may be compensated by the University up to 25% of their annual salary rate. The application is due in your department by Decemeber 3rd, 2012. Please follow this link for information on elligibility and the award application and instructions.

 

  • William Steward Travel Award, CUNY Academy of the Humanities and Sciences

Established in 2002, the William Stewart Travel Awards provide grants of up to $500 to first, second, third or fouth year tenure-track assistant professors at CUNY for presenting, chairing or moderating at a scholarly conference from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012. Previous award recipients cannot reapply. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis and early applications get special consideration.

Awardees must provide a copy of the conference program with their name listed in his/her session. Awardees will be sent a Graduate School travel voucher to receive reimbursement for their expenses. They must submit original receipts for registration, transportation, and lodging related to the conference; there is no per diem, and food is not included. We may not be able to fund all submitted expenses.

The Award is valid only for the conference stated in the application.

Applications received after midnight on December 10, 2012 will probably not be funded.

 

  • PSC-CUNY Research Award Program

The PSC-CUNY Research Award Program was established as a major vehicle for the University's encouragement and support for faculty research and to leverage external funding.  It seeks to enhance the University's role as a research institution, further the professional growth and development of its faculty and provide support for both the established and the younger scholar.  More information about the program may be obtained on the Office of Research Administration website. Deadline:  December 15, 2012, 5:00 pm EST.

 

  • The Feliks Gross Endowment Award

This award is presented each year to assistant professors in recognition of outstanding research, or potential for such, in the humanities or sciences, including social and life sciences. Any faculty member who is an assistant professor at any unit of CUNY and whose field of expertise covers an area of the humanities or sciences is eligible to be considered for one of these awards. Recipients who present their work at the ceremony receive an honorarium and a plaque. Nominations are due on Monday, February 4, 2013.
