SAT/ACT

You can take either the SAT or the ACT, or both, as most colleges accept both the SAT and ACT. You may do better on one test than than the other, as they are structured very differently.

SAT- Scholastic Aptitude Test

This examination is required for any student applying to a four-year college or university. The exam consist of math reasoning, reading comprehension and a writing section. It is three and a half hours long and can be taken on May 2 and June 6. You can register online and receive fee waivers from the college counselor at your school. ACT- American College Test

The ACT is another standardized examination that is also accepted by most four-year colleges and universities. It consist of English, math, reading, science and writing. This exam focuses on content specific questions, similar to your tests in high school, whereas the SAT tests your general knowledge and learning aptitude. Although the SAT is more popular among students, many students find that they do better on the ACT. It is three and a half hours long and can be taken on April 4 and June 13.
