Dr. Amber Alliger joined the Psychology Department faculty as an Animal Behavior Lecturer, obtaining her PhD in Biopsychology and Behavioral Neuroscience from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York in 2009.
Dr. Alliger has extensive experience teaching our undergraduates in experimental psychology, statistics, and animal behavior; plus she has collaborated with many of our faculty on research projects.
Dr. Alliger brings a specific expertise in animal behavior, particularly in studies of laboratory animal welfare and husbandry. Her research involves testing the effects of environmental enrichment on cognitive performance in rats. The philosophy behind her research is that the current methods used for housing laboratory animals are not sufficient in producing valid models for pharmaceutical research. She believes that the validity of our scientific research can be increased when using models that come from enriched environments. She plans to continue her research in testing the effects of enriched environments (social and environmental) on laboratory subjects.
