Professor Jeffrey Mongrain Named Distinguished Professor of Art

Jeffrey Mongrain has been named a Distinguished Professor of Art at Hunter College by The City University of New York Board of Trustees.

Mongrain, a member of the Hunter faculty since 1995, is the head of MFA Sculpture and Undergraduate Ceramics. He becomes Hunter's 18th serving Distinguished Professor, joining an elite group of scholars, researchers and creative artists who have earned national and international renown in their fields.

"I'm deeply honored," said Mongrain. "I feel privileged to work at Hunter College and have nothing but great respect for my colleagues and students alike."

Mongrain's sculptures have appeared in museums around the world and his work has been covered extensively in the press, from Art in America and World Sculpture, to The New York Times and The Chicago Tribune.

In addition to his teaching and frequent exhibitions, Mongrain has also represented the United States in nine international biennials and he was recently selected by the Smithsonian Institute's Archives of American Art to contribute to their oral history program.

His next major solo exhibit will be held in November at the Museum of Modern Art in the Dominican Republic.
