Scenarios USA Honors Professor Tolman with a 2012 REAL DEAL Award
Silberman School of Social Work Professor Deborah Tolman (c) is joined by Hunter College President Jennifer J. Raab (r) and Hunter College Provost Vita Rabinowitz at the Scenarios USA annual gala where she was presented with the 2012 REAL DEAL Award on April 24. Tolman was recognized for her groundbreaking work in gender and media literacy and as a co-founder of SPARK (Sexualization Protest: Action, Resistance, Knowledge) Summit, a girl-fueled activist movement, which has significantly contributed to a shift in the conversation about gender stereotypes, sexuality and young people, particularly as it relates to girls.
Scenarios USA is a national non-profit organization that uses writing and film to foster youth leadership, advocacy and self-expression in students, with a focus on underserved communities. Each year, the organization honors dynamic individuals and companies whose work helps to redefine the representations of young people in mainstream media.
