U.S. News Ranks Hunter 8th Among Top 10 Public Regional Universities

In the most recent report documenting Hunter’s steadily rising rank among the nation’s top colleges, the 2011 College Rankings issued by U.S. News and World Report ranks Hunter 8th among the nation’s top 10 public regional universities in the North. Hunter and Baruch College were the only two CUNY colleges to make the top public list.

Regional universities, one of several categories in the U.S. News listings, are defined as institutions that provide a full range of undergraduate programs and some master’s programs.

Among all public and private regional universities in the North, Hunter moved up 6 points in the last year—to 39th place from 45th in the 2010 survey. Hunter also has the highest alumni giving rate (22%) of all CUNY colleges, is high on the list of the most racially diverse regional universities in the North, and is among the 5 Northern regional universities with the least amount of student debt.

U.S. News has also added rankings based on commitment to teaching, focus on student success, and best schools for students who are not “superstars,” yet “might be accepted and thrive.” Hunter was one of three CUNY colleges to receive top marks in this category.

Hunter was also recently named the #2 “Best Value Public College” for 2010 by Princeton Review and USA Today, and in an unranked list in the 2011 edition of The Princeton Review’s “Best College” book, Hunter was named one of “the best 373 colleges” in the country and one of the 218 “Best in the Northeast.”
