Welcome to the History Department

The History Department is deeply saddened at the news of the death of our dear colleague, Dr. Florene S. Memegalos, who passed away on June 9. Dr. Memegalos, who received degrees in languages and history from Georgetown University and her PhD from the Graduate School, CUNY, taught courses in British and European history at Hunter College for several decades. She was devoted to her students who flocked to her seminars in English and Spanish history, as well as to her sections of the History Practicum, which she taught for many years. Dr. Memegalos was also the author of George Goring (1608–1657): Caroline Courtier and Royalist General (Routledge, 2007) the first modern biography of Goring that situated his life within the social and cultural history of England in the early seventeenth century. She was a kind and generous colleague who will be deeply missed.
