Hunter College Mourns the Passing of Sgt. Griselde Camacho
Our Hunter family is in mourning for Sgt. Griselde Camacho, a public safety officer at our East Harlem campus since 2008, who died in the East Harlem building explosion on March 12.
Griselde was a beloved member of our community, a respected officer and a welcoming presence at our Silberman School of Social Work building. She was named the 2009 Campus Peace Officer of the Year and received the Lieutenant Award for Public Safety Achievement.
Griselde is survived by her mother, who was seriously injured in the explosion, and her 15-year-old son. To help support them in this time of great need, we have created a fund in Griselde’s name. To donate, please click here or call 212.650.3607.
We know this is a difficult time for everyone who knew and worked with Griselde. Counseling is available to all in the Hunter community by calling the Work/Life Program at 800.833.8707, where you can be connected with a mental health professional.
A campus memorial service is being planned.
