A CMS is a content management system that is used to manage the contents of a website. These web-based publishing tools allow individuals to use a template or a set of templates, along with an online user-friendly interface, to create or modify web content.
The Hunter WebCMS is the content management system we use here at Hunter College to manage most of our departmental and administrative office websites. The Hunter WebCMS allows people who may not know HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) to manage the creation, modification, and removal of content from a website without needing the expertise of a webmaster!
The benefits of using a CMS include:
- The ability to create a website and easily add, edit, manage and publish content.
- The ability to easily organize and publish your content in a fast and consistent fashion.
- The ability to edit your website from anywhere, allowing you to make changes at work, at home or on the go.
- No longer needing to work with development tools such as Dreamweaver or FrontPage. No knowledge of HTML is required!
In the WebCMS, each department or office is responsible for managing their own website, including its content and user membership.
The WebCMS is intended only for public-facing content. Content for internal use should be managed elsewhere.
