COVID-19 UPDATES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

April 2020

From the Hunter College International Students Office (ISO)

Dear Students:

The health and wellbeing of our F-1 and J-1 Exchange students is of paramount concern. We continue to monitor this evolving situation, and we are here to assist our community of international students as needed.

We understand the uncertainty you may be feeling regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and we are committed to being responsive to your needs. Although our office is not open to visitors at this time, we can still assist you during our normal office hours. Please email us at intlss@hunter.cuny.edu or call 212.772.4864. After office hours, we strongly encourage you to review the information on this website.

Your Status (as of March 19, 2020)

Please note that CUNY, in collaboration with the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), is maintaining the F-1 or J-1 statuses of enrolled students, as long as you are engaged in a full-time course of study, including courses taught. "Full-time" means 12 credits for undergraduates, and 9 credits for graduate students, unless you have received written permission for a reduced course load from our office.

International Travel

We understand that some students wish to travel home. Before leaving the United States, please email us at intlss@hunter.cuny.edu and complete our travel request form at bit.ly/isotravel. Let us know that you'll need a travel endorsement signature. The travel endorsement signature will enable you to enter the United States when you return. We have made arrangements for you to receive an endorsement.

If you have already left the U.S. without a travel endorsement signature, please email us one month before your return to the United States and we'll explain how to get your signed/endorsed I-20 for F-1 students, or DS2019 for J-1 Exchange Visitor students.

Your Application for Graduation

If you intend to graduate this spring, and have not yet applied to graduate, please contact us as soon as possible, at intlss@hunter.cuny.edu.

OPT and Academic Training

If you have pending appointments with myself or Nadege Coriolan, or you have not finalized your Optional Practical Training applications (F-1) or Academic Training applications(J-1), we will send you a separate e-mail with further instructions.

For Further Assistance

Please contact Iris Aroyewun-Birchwood, Director, at iaroyewu@hunter.cuny.edu) or Nadege Coriolan, International Students Advisor at ncoriola@hunter.cuny.edu.
