The Dorothy Horowitz Prize

The Dorothy Horowitz Prize 2023

The Dorothy Horowitz Scholarship is the English Department’s only need-based scholarship. The Department will consider submissions for the prize in the next academic year (2023-2024). Eligibility details are outlined below.

Eligibility: Open to all undergraduate and graduate students in English. Applicants must be in good academic standing.

To Apply: Submit one copy of a recent unofficial Hunter College transcript and one copy of a 300-word personal essay that outlines the general circumstances of financial need. The essay may include any specific plans for use of the funds, but this is not required for consideration. Make sure your EMPLID is correctly included in your submission. We can not identify you without it. Submissions are currently closed.

Please also note: as much as we would like it to be, the Horowitz Prize is not an emergency fund. Even after its award it may take a few months to be distributed. As we hope you know, there are other emergency resources that the College offers, which are listed here: https://hunter.cuny.edu/students/health-wellness/emergency-support-resources/

If you have any questions, please reach out to the English Department at english@hunter.cuny.edu.
