INTERNATIONAL ETHICS

This course focuses on ethical issues that are transnational or global in scope – for example, universal human rights, world poverty, global climate change, terrorism, war and peace, and cosmopolitan democracy.

Although having a prerequisite of one course in philosophy, specific knowledge of ethics is not presupposed. Instead, the course will provide the needed background in ethics. Also, specific knowledge of world affairs is not presupposed. Again, the course will provide the needed background.

Required readings: 1. William K. Frankena, Ethics. 2nd ed. Prentice Hall, 1973. ISBN-13: 9780132904780. 2. The Globalization of World Politics: An Introduction to International Relations, ed. John Baylis, Steve Smith, and Patricia Owens. Oxford University Press, 2008. ISBN 978-0-19-929777-1. Additional required readings will be assigned during the course of the semester.
