ETHICAL ISSUES IN BIOLOGY & MEDICAL CARE

    This course focuses on ethical issues about the practice of medicine, the provision of health care, and biomedical research.

    Although having a prerequisite of one course in philosophy, specific knowledge of ethics is not presupposed. Instead, the course will provide the needed background in ethics. Also, specific knowledge of biology and medical care is not presupposed. Again, the course will provide the needed background.

    Required readings: Tom L. Beauchamp and James F. Childress, Principles of Biomedical Ethics, 6th edition. Oxford University Press, 2008. ISBN 9780195335705. Additional required readings might be assigned during the course of the semester.
