MS Nutrition - Focused Study Track

This 36-credit program (1.5 years/3 semesters) is for credentialed RDs/RDNs with an undergraduate degree, or students with degrees in physical or social sciences (who meet the pre-requisites) with research interests in the area of Nutrition. The program covers clinical aspects of nutrition research in addition to providing an individualized focus developed through elective course selection, in areas such as cancer research, food policy, or nutritional epidemiology.

Completing both a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DP) and a Dietetic Internship Program (DI), in addition to passing the registration examination for·Registered Dietitians/Nutritionists, are key requirements to become a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist. The IPND allows students to complete both the DP and the DI in one program. Students/interns will need to have a master's degree in order to take the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) credentialing exam to become a registered dietitian nutritionist after January 1, 2024. Registration is governed by the·Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Details on CDR and about the 2024 requirement for a master's degree in order to be eligible to take the CDR credentialing exam for registered dietitian nutritionists can be found at:https://www.cdrnet.org/certifications/registered-dietitian-rd-certification

In some states, graduates also must obtain licensure or certification to practice. All U.S. states and territories with licensure and certification laws accept the RDN credential for state licensure and certification purposes.  Even though the Certified Dietitian Nutritionist (CDN) license in the state of New York is optional and not required in addition to the RDN certificate to practice, our students often tell us that their start date is pushed back if they don't receive this certification.
