NEW STUDENT ORIENTATIONS

New Student Orientation Fall 2020

NEXT ORIENTATION: Monday,January 25| 1:30-2:30pm

In this meeting, we will explain your rights and responsibilities at Hunter College and in the United States. We'll also share opportunities and resources that will support your Hunter education, both inside and outside the classroom.

An Academic Advisor will explain how to plan your semester and register for undergraduate courses. Graduate students should consult with their departmental advisors regarding their spring 2021 schedules.

Orientation topics include:

  • A basic registration checklist
  • Setting up your Hunter ID card and accessing your accounts
  • Cultural and social activities to help you learn about the U.S.
  • Study groups, clubs and other opportunities to form lifetime friendships
  • What to expect in a U.S. classroom and on campus
  • How to avoid plagiarism and maintain academic integrity
  • How to recognize and prevent sexual harassment
  • Resources that will help you manage stress and stay focused
  • Health insurance options
  • Employment options
  • How to get a New York State or New Jersey ID card
  • Scholarships for international students

All students —
You are encouraged to have these documents available, to help you ask questions at the end of the meeting.

  • I-20 (F-1 Student Status forms)
  • Passport, Visa and the Arrival stamp in your passport
  • Change of status approval notice, if you have one.

Undergraduate students
If you have already registered for classes, you may want to have your class schedule available for discussion.

Graduate students —
You should consult with your departmental advisor regarding your spring 2021 schedules.
