EVENTS and NEWS
Please fill out theTravel Signature Request Form at least two weeks prior to traveling out of the United States. You do not need to have an itinerary to request a signature for travel; you may provide estimate dates of when you think you may be leaving and returning in the U.S. If you request a signature for travel and you do not receive it before leaving the U.S. you won't have a problem leaving; it is when you are returning to the U.S. you will be required to submit your signed I-20 for re-entry. Therefore, as long as you receive your I-20 before your returning date in the U.S. you will be fine since the I-20 can be sent to you via email attachment.
OPT Information Sessions
F-1 students are eligible for full-time employment, for a total of twelve months of Optional Practical Training (OPT) per educational level. OPT provides an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge obtained in an academic program to a practical work experience in the U.S.
If the currnet semester is your last semester to complete your studies at Hunter, you are encouraged to attend at least one OPT information session:
Continue to check this session or the web site for updates
Immigration Updates and transitioning to the H1-B, professional work status/visa meeting:
Please continue to check here for upcoming H1-B meetings hosted by legal immigration experts.
Post Covid , Full time enrollment guidance for F1/J1 students:
All F-1 graduate, or undergraduate students may register for only one fully online course out of their full-time enrollment, 9 credits for graduate students and 12 credits for undergraduate students, during the fall and spring semesters; hybrid courses, except for HYFlex are considered in person classes. Attending school during the summer or winter sessions is optional, not mandatory for F-1 students.
Digital I-20s
Based on recent guidance from the U.S. government, the International Students Office staff can issue digitally signed I-20s and DS-2019 forms.
This means that if you are a student in F-1 status and you apply for anything that requires a new I-20 (for example, a travel signature, OPT, CPT, etc.), you will receive a digital I-20 at your Hunter College email account instead of receiving a new, printed I-20, once your document is ready; only students applying for social security numbers, will require an original I-20s/DS2019 forms.
REMINDER TO F-1 STUDENTS:
You are required to pay the out of New York State resident tuition and fees, regardless of how long you have resided in New York State.
