PHILO 252, Sec. 001 [4287]/Professor Ross/TTh 4:10-5:25pm

Law and Morality

This course is largely but not wholly given over to an examination of central doctrines in American Constitutional law through readings in case law. Freedom of religion, free speech, hate speech, racial discrimination, affirmative action, sexual privacy and abortion will figure centrally. In some cases, we will look at essays on these subjects as well, but be warned: this course is largely case law and legal doctrine. We will also look at some non-constitutional issues, such as the insanity defense, and perhaps, the issue of punishment generally.

All articles assigned for this course shall be online and on ERES.
