Attendance, Class Cancellations & Make-up Classes

  • All classes require a minimum number of enrolled students for them to run. Every attempt will be made to notify students at least 24 hours prior to their first class if the course is canceled. In the event of a class cancellation, you have the option of a refund or a transfer to another class. Occasionally, a class may be canceled due to an unforeseen emergency or instructor's illness.  In this case, make-up classes are assigned by the instructor.
  • CE@Hunter reserves the right to cancel classes, change rooms, locations, alter times, dates, instructors and/or tuition without prior notification if necessary. We regret any inconvenience this may cause and will make every attempt to accommodate students.
  • Letter of Attendance: Students receive a completion letter if they have attended at least 80% of a course that is 15+ hours. Certificate Students are awarded a Certificate upon completion of their studies. Certificates can be requested online:Request Your CertificateIf you are a certificate student and want a course waived, you must submit a transcript proving that the course was completed in another location within the last 2 years.
  • For those who registered for a certifcate program on the basis of a payment plan, the payment plan option listed for it on the web applies. The payment plan will begin automatically 30 days after initial payment.
  • Discount Policy

    • To receive discounts, you must register by mail, phone or in person and be prepared to show proof.
    • You cannot receive discounts when registering online.
    • Discounts must be applied at the time of registration.
    • Discounts are only valid during time of promotion, are not given retroactively, and may not be combined with any other discounts.
    • All discounts are available on individual courses of $150 or more and on a space available basis. Any exceptions to the above policy require the Director's written approval.
    • Discounts do no apply to special promotion classes, additional fees for materials, special equipment, or for classes that are co-sponsored with another orgranization.
    • 10% discount for Hunter employees, students and senior citizens aged 62+ (must present proof), senior diplomatic personnel (UN Diplomats, Vice-Consuls, Ambassadors, etc).
    • 10% discount for Hunter alumni, US Veterans and CUNY employees (must present proof of employment including title and date of employment).
    • Discounts do not apply to Certificate Programs.
    • Discounts do not apply to Silberman School of Social Work courses, unless otherwise noted.
    • Discounts do not apply to School of Education courses, unless otherwise noted.
    • Any additional discounts are at the discretion of the director or his designee.  Unless otherwise indicated, employees must have a minimum of three months employment to be eligible for discounts.
    • For programs run in partnership with another institution or organization, the maximum allowed is 10%, regardless of status 

    Refund & Retake Policies

    • If Hunter cancels a course, students are entitled to a 100% refund (including registration fee).
    • If a student withdraws prior to the first class meeting, tuition is refunded less the registration fee and a $10 drop fee.  After the first class meeting, no refunds will be issued. This includes classes the student failed to attend despite registering. Refund requests must be accompanied by your receipt.
    • The withdrawal fee for Certificate Program students is $100 plus the registration fee. Students who withdraw from certificate courses will be charged the entire course tuition upon withdrawal, even if they attend only one session.
    • Online Courses:  The first class session begins the moment a student logs into the system. No refunds will be granted after this point. Refund requests must be made in writing (via fax,  email or in person).
    •   Credit card refunds are credited back to the card used to register for the course. Check refunds will be mailed 4 to 6 weeks after cancelled registration.
    • Retake Classes for Students Enrolled in Certificate Programs: If a student fails a course, they can retake this course free of charge within one year. This privilege can be exercised only once, for one class, and only for students enrolled in the entire certificate program. If a student is unable to complete or has to drop a course, please state the reason in writing and send to Continuing Education. With all retakes, the registration fee must be paid if applicable, when registering. Note that the minimum passing grade for our classes is a C, with the exception of certificates in translation and/or interpretation, in which case the minimum passing grade is a B.

    Refund Policy for IELI Students

    • The testing/registration fee is not refundable. (The placement test is valid for 12 months.)
    • The IELI I-20 application is not refundable.
    • $500 nonrefundable tuition deposit for new applicants and F1 Students. (Exception to this policy is for those whose visa is denied)
