Title: Pre-Health Group Advising
Description: Hunter Pre-Health advisers will hold a group advising sessions for students with Pre-Health questions. This session will be held in a classroom setting and will allow students to collectively ask questions of the Pre-Health advising team and to learn from their Pre-Health peers. All are welcome, especially first-year students!

Title: Everything You Need to Know about Being a Pre-Health Student
Description: This workshop is geared towards students who are interested in going on to professional health care programs of medicine, dentistry, optometry, veterinary and podiatric medicine. This workshop is designed to ensure students learn the basic information and can begin meeting the requirements for competitive application. Topics include:
• Academic Expectations
• Prerequisite courses
• How to develop your Pre-Health Portfolio
• Characteristics of a Competitive Applicant
To register with the Pre-Health Advising Office and to start a Pre-Health file, your attendance is REQUIRED.
Title: Suturing 101 for Pre-Health Students
Description: Come and learn how to suture. The term “suture” is used to refer both to a specific technique for closing a wound, in which the sides of the wound are stitched together, and to the individual stitches involved in the wound closure.
This is a hands-on workshop. You will be given the opportunity to practice suturing. Start perfecting your suturing skills today! Seats are limited. RSVP TODAY.
Title: Networking with Hunter College Science Faculty with Dr. Samantha Sheppard- Lahiji
Description: Getting to know Hunter College faculty is important for advising purposes, mentorship and letters of recommendations. This is a great opportunity for you to network with faculty beyond office hours and lectures. Join us for an engaging talk with Hunter College Biology professor Dr. Samantha Sheppard- Lahiji.
Dr. Samantha Sheppard- Lahiji was raised in New York. She received her BS from John Jay College Criminal Justice where she graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Forensic Science (concentration in Molecular Biology). She earned her Ph.D. in Cellular Biology from City University of New York Graduate Center at Hunter College and completed her postdoctoral research fellowship at Memorial Sloan- Kettering Cancer Center. At Memorial- Sloan Kettering she focused on standardizing quantitative assay to measure DNA repair in human cells. Dr. Samantha Sheppard- Lahiji has taught classes at Hunter since 2006 and became a teaching faculty in 2017.
Title: MAPS MCAT/Rise for Rohingya / Public Health Research Panel Discussion
Description: Join Hunter MAPS for a special two hour collaboration with Rise for Rohingya an online movement characterized to prevent victims and families of mass genocide in Rohingya from ailments and lack of resources and medicine. The first hour guest speaker David Ellison the esteemed MCAT tutor will discuss his strategy for success on the MCAT and how his system has revolutionized the ability of many students to score perfect scores on the exam. Raffles and free classes will be given away. The second hour of the panel will be Dr. Olugbenga G. Ogedegbe (MD./MPH) speaking about his public health research at NYU Langone and the application of using clinic and statistics driven-research to better assess the issues revolving around the disparities in health and medicine.
