Title: Stem Study Skills for Pre-Health Student
Description: How many times have you said, “I studied so hard for that test!” Please join us if you want to learn how to turn your hard work into stellar grades. Learn to study “creatively” for your STEM classes from a panel of high performing Hunter STEM students who will give you their strategies to earn top grades. Learn how to turn your memorized “facts” into the basis of your critical thinking strategies that lead to a better understanding of the material and how to fully form complete answers to exam questions. This is a required workshop for first-year or freshmen Pre-Health students.
Title: Time management for Applicants: from Application Submission to Applicant Interviews
Description: The application process for medical, dental, optometry and veterinary school takes about a full year, and application planning and time management will play a key role in your success as an applicant.
Staying on a schedule can increase your chances of gaining admission. One of the critical pieces of advice students should follow is to apply early. While it may seem simple, it can be challenging to gather all the necessary materials and obtain the minimum scores and grades you need to gain admission to health professions graduate program of your choice. This workshop will teach you effective time management techniques for the application cycle.
Title: Doctor Speaker Series: Hunter College Alum Dr. Joanna Ayoung
Description: Join us for our first Doctor Speaker Series talk of the semester with Hunter alum Joanna Ayoung. Dr. Joanna Ayoung is an obstetrician/gynecologist. She attended Weill Cornell and is a 2006 graduate of Hunter College. Dr. Ayoung will discuss her path to medicine and answer any questions you may have.
Title: How to Prepare and Apply to Optometry School
Description: If you are interested in becoming a Doctor of Optometry then this workshop is a must! We will cover everything you need to know in order to be a strong applicant to Doctor of Optometry programs. The workshop will discuss all aspects of preparing for and applying to Optometry Schools---there are 20 programs in total---including pre-requisite coursework in science and math, and the necessary types of clinical, volunteer service, and extracurricular experiences. We will also discuss the importance of your GPA and OAT score as well as getting strong course evaluations and letters of recommendations. The workshop will also provide an Application Timeline and review how to navigate the OptomCAS application site. It is highly recommended that a Committee Letter accompany your application to Optometry School. This workshop is required for all Pre-Health students who are considering a professional career in optometry.
