Title: Fall Speaker Series: Dr. Valerie Parkas
Description: Please join us for a conversation with Dr. Valerie Parkas, Senior Associate Dean of Admissions and Recruitment of Mount Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Parkas received both her undergraduate and medical degrees from Brown University and completed her residency training in internal medicine at New York Hospital-Cornell University Medical School and her fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Memorial Sloan Kettering. She came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai as an attending in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases in 1997. Dr. Parkas has been involved in both clinical care and medical education from the start of her career.

Title: Trauma Management and Point of Injury Care
Description: We will discuss the main causes of death in emergency care and learn how to manage the three preventable causes of death; which are hemorrhaging, airway compromise, and tension pneumothorax. In addition, we will go over the different phases of initial care from point of injury through medical evacuation. We will have demonstrations of some medical equipment and hands-on skills.

Description: The ability to network effectively is key to your success as a Pre-Health student. Networking 101 will help you to learn how to present yourself effectively in classes, in interviews, business/social settings or simply when you walk into a room.
Title: Doctor Speaker Series: Dr. Hector Sepulveda Alemany
Description: Dr. Alemany attended undergrad at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus where he majored in Biology (2010-2014). Following this, he attended the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine at San Juan, PR (2014-2018) before applying for residency. He is currently in his second year of Internal Medicine Residency at New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center. In addition to his time seeing patients, Hector serves as a co-chair of the Minority Housestaff Committee, organizing events and activities for underrepresented minority Internal Medicine residents.
