Title: Networking Session with Dr. Paul Martin

Description: Dr. Paul Martin is an Assistant Attending Physician at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College, Cornell University. He is board-certified in internal medicine and has been a practicing academic hospitalist since 2004. Beyond clinical care, his academic interests include quality improvement and patient safety, hospital operations, decision analysis, evidence-based medicine, medical education, and medical writing.

Title: How to Pursue Research Opportunities for Pre-Health Students

Description: We will discuss the importance of research and how to find research opportunities. "Research is highly valued at top-tier schools. Without a research background, some applicants will be screened out of interviews, even though they have good grades and a solid MCAT score. However, a student with a research background will likely be perceived by admissions committee members as inquisitive and willing to think creatively." This is a required workshop for Pre-Health students.

Title: Mentoring in Medicine Opportunities Information Session

Description: Mentoring in Medicine (MIM)(www.MedicalMentor.org) is a national nonprofit organization based in New York City. Mentoring in Medicine is dedicated to academic enrichment, leadership development, community service and mentoring urban students interested in pursuing a healthcare profession. The organization offers students hands-on experience in a variety of healthcare occupations through their educational and mentoring programs. In the seven years since its conception, Mentoring in Medicine has developed programs that have reached almost 50,000 students, parents, and professionals. Nearly 800 health care professionals: doctors, dentists, podiatrists, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, researchers, and health administrators, have worked together to assist youth to strategically prepare an educational plan so they can obtain their goal of becoming a health professional, in addition to encouraging healthy living.

Title: SUNY Downstate Early Medical Education Program Application Preparation Workshop

Description: The Early Medical Education Program is an initiative to increase the competitiveness of pre-medical students, early in their college career by providing exam preparation and academic support. Students will learn time & stress management skills and have an opportunity for hands-on exposure to medical disciplines through shadowing experiences with clinicians. Successful participants are guaranteed admission to SUNY Downstate’s College of Medicine. This workshop will review the requirements for application to the SUNY Downstate Early Medical Education Program. The workshop will give you an overview of the application.

Title: Summer Cancer Research Institute Information Session

Description: The SCRI program is an 8-week intensive summer program supported by the National Cancer Institute. This program is for Undergraduate and Graduate students interested in pursuing biomedical, clinical & population-based cancer research Participants will benefit from: Hands-on research training Mentorship from established investigators Participation in cancer seminars and skill-building workshops Housing, travel and an individual stipend of $3,000 Duration: June 8th - July 31st

Title: Bioethics Debate: Genetic Engineering

Description: Join the Society of Bioethics and Medicine for our first debate of the semester! We will be discussing the ethics of genomics, CRISPR-Cas9, and biomedical engineering. Come voice your opinions and hear those of other students, and apply your perspective and knowledge to cases relating to genetic engineering. Food will be served!
