Description: Join us for an engaging discussion with Dr. Nelson Sanchez. Dr. Sanchez currently serves as an urgent care physician at Memorial Sloan Kettering. He has a bachelor's degree from Brown University and a medical degree from NYU School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at NYU Medical Center
During his medical training, Nelson conducted research exploring LGBT health and health care. He completed research on medical students' attitudes and clinical experiences with gay, lesbian, and transgender patients, and New York City transgender residents' access to medical care and hormone therapies. His research has been published in various journals, including Family Medicine and the American Journal of Public Health. At Weill Cornell, he currently leads the Safe Zone LGBT Allies Training Workshops, he teaches a course on LGBT health for the first-year medical student class, and he collaborates with medical students on educational initiatives to improve physician training in the care of LGBT patients.

Title: SUNY Downstate Early Medical Education(EME) Informationion Session
Description: The Early Medical Education Program (EME) is an initiative to increase the academic competitiveness of undergraduate pre-medical students, early in their college career. The program is designed to provide medical science lectures and academic support through a 4-week, summer enrichment program for the first two summers and a 6-week, pre-matriculation program for the third summer. Students are selected from one of the participating linkage schools. Once accepted into EME, if students meet the program requirements they are granted a guaranteed acceptance into SUNY Downstate's College of Medicine.

Title: Linkage 101 for Post Bacc Certificate Students
Description: We are inviting Post Bacc students who qualify to attend an information session in which we will provide details about our linkage programs and their application requirements. Please note that this Linkage Workshop is only for Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program students who are completing the requirements in the final year of the program. Qualified applicants must be nominated by the Pre-Health Office and must have a minimum Hunter Post-Baccalaureate GPA of 3.6. Some of our linkage programs also have a minimum undergraduate GPA requirement but qualification for others are much more dependent on the Hunter Post-Baccalaureate GPA. Successful linkage candidates must also have significant research experience and should plan to take the MCAT no later than April of 2017. All required coursework, including labs, must also be completed by the end of the Fall 2016 semester.
The workshop will cover specific requirements for the individual institutions, including deadlines, GPA cutoffs, AMCAS and MCAT preparation, and timelines for each of the schools: Cornell, Hofstra, New York University, and Stony Brook medical schools. This is the perfect opportunity to have your questions answered.
Each of these institutions also allows prospective candidates to visit their campuses. Please check Blackboard for invitation notices and associated deadlines for these campus visits.
THIS WORKSHOP IS MANDATORY FOR STUDENTS HOPING TO APPLY VIA LINKAGE IN THE 2017 CYCLE. This may be the only linkage workshop for this application cycle so please make every effort to attend.

Title: The Doctor Speaker Series-Dr. Ibrahim Hussain
Description: Join us for an engaging discussion with Dr. Ibrahim Hussain. Dr. Hussain is a Neurosurgery resident at Weill Cornell Medical Center-New York Presbyterian Hospital and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Dr. Hussain received his M.D. from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey(New Jersey Medical School), where among other distinctions he was the recipient of the Doris Duke Research Fellowship Award. For that fellowship, Hussain worked with Dr. David Gutmann at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis to help develop the Neurofibromatosis Genome Project and Neurofibromatosis Patient Registry Initiative. As a research fellow at New Jersey Medical School’s Department of Neurosurgery, Hussain evaluated cerebral aneurysms to identify risk factors for rupture.
