Title: Clinical Volunteering 101 for Pre-Health Students
Description: Shari Sirkin Kaplan, the Volunteer Program Director at Mount Sinai Hospital will be conducting a workshop about clinical volunteering and will also recruit students to serve as volunteers in the Emergency Department. This is a highly sought after placement for anyone interested in pursuing an education and career in health. This is a required workshop for Pre-Health students.
Title: FlexMed Early Assurance Program Application Preparation Workshop
Description: This workshop will review the requirements for application to the FlexMed Early Assurance Program of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS).
This workshop will specifically focus on how to write the FlexMed essays. A step-by-step analysis of what to discuss in each essay response and how to organize your essay responses will be reviewed.
The workshop will also prepare you for the interview. The types of questions you should be prepared to answer and how to be a strong applicant will be covered.
Hunter College sophomores who are currently applying or are planning to apply to the Flex-Med Program at ISMMS are strongly encouraged to attend.
You will also have the opportunity to speak with successful FlexMed applicant Christina Marshall.
This workshop is a collaboration between Hunter College Macaulay Honors College and the Pre-Health Professions Advising Office.
Title: Application Planning 101
Description: This workshop will offer a step-by-step detailed action plan for students to follow with the intention of providing them with the framework for a strong and comprehensive
application. The workshop will break down the students’ responsibilities as an applicant by year, and provide different scenarios and paths that perhaps they haven’t considered but that will lead to a more competitive application.
Title: New York Institute of Osteopathic Medicine Admissions Presentation
Description: David C. Oroza, Assistant Director of Admissions at New York Institute of Osteopathic Medicine will give an admissions presentation that will cover topics such as; the Osteopathic medical school admissions process.
He will also discuss the early interview option for Hunter College students applying in the upcoming application cycle.

Description: Ph.D.: Dr. Fontasha Powell
Dr. Powell holds a doctorate in Computational Neuroscience. She is the founder and director of the Tri-Institutional Minority Society (TIMS) Summer Scholars Research Program is funded jointly by Weill Cornell, Rockefeller University and Memorial Sloan Kettering.
MD: Dr. Melody Smith
Dr. Smith is a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist who works as part of a multidisciplinary team caring for people with hematologic disorders. She received her BA from Vanderbilt University and her MD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School as well as her MA from Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences. She currently works at
MD/ Ph.D.: Dr. Renatta Knox
Dr. Knox is a Pediatric Neurology Resident at NYP-Weill Cornel l who will specialize in neuromuscular medicine. She received her BA from Harvard University, her MD/ Ph.D. from USC- San Francisco.
